Sparta, Mississippi
So of course when we discovered that Sparta, Mississippi was only 30 minutes away from Starkville, we had to go and pay homage to the man and his tv show "In the Heat of the Night". Yeah, I know that the TV show was based on an Oscar winning 1967 movie of the same name starring the great Sidney Poitier and Rod Stieger, but whatever. Tuner South (our new favorite cable tv channel) shows In the Heat of the Night (the movie and the tv show) about four to five times a day. Turner South also shows Matlock about four to five times a day, but we don't really care because Matlock didn't fictionally take place thirty minutes away from our house.
Let's take a look at the TV cast shall we???
okay. that was enough.
Notice how there are six people in the cast photo? Well that is about twice the amount of people that ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE REAL SPARTA.
We know this.
The real Sparta is so small that Mapquest.com can't even give accurate directions. Thanks to Clifton's keen sense of direction we found it on our own. When we found Sparta we found a grocery store. and a sign.
At the store we bought a snickers bar and Dr. Pepper (me) and a Diet Coke and crackers (Cliff). The place smelled like it had been dipped in batter and then fried.
Sparta did not have a quaint downtown. It did not have a cranky, yet lovable, yet slightly racist sheriff. In fact, the only thing that Sparta MS had in common with its Hollywood counterpart was its namesake. The 1967 movie was actually filmed in Sparta, Illinois because it was decided that it would be too dangerous to actually film in Mississippi in the late 1960s.
But our trip to Sparta was great.
We stopped in Maben, MS and found a great old antique store that had a creepy doll room.
I think it was Maben. MS has an odd amount of towns that start with the letter M. I get confused sometimes.
Oh! and here is a photo of cotton.
We then returned home right as the football game ended.
MS STATE was playing Auburn. MS State lost: 45 to 14
But even though MS State were big fat losers, Cliff and I we big fat winners because we got to see Sparta, Mississippi.
THE END

We decided that we like money more that sports.
After selling the first pair of free msstate football tickets on ebay for $45.00 we decided that instead of using the other pair of free tickets to acutally go to the game that we would just sell those too.
So we spent fifteen minutes at the end of our road and sold them for $40.00
I wish that we could get free tickets for every game.
